Mine a Planet Beginner Guide: Your First Five Minutes

Follow a careful first-five-minute route: observe a full mining cycle, pair drones with dock slots, test reported codes, and upgrade one bottleneck at a time.

The safest opening strategy in Mine a Planet is not “buy everything.” It is to establish one observable production loop, identify what is slowing it, and improve one stage at a time. That creates a baseline you can use later in the Drone Fleet Optimizer.

The official Roblox description confirms the broad loop: laser drones mine a voxel planet, cash funds growth, fleet upgrades include Speed, Cargo, and Mining Power, and planet evolutions unlock rarer ore and bigger worlds. Recent guide footage supplies the interface-level sequence of rolling, buying, assigning, and recalling drones.

Minute 0–1: let the interface settle

On first load, finish any tutorial or prompt that blocks menus. Then pause before spending. Find the visible cash balance, roll area, dock or platform controls, planet upgrade prompt, and Settings gear.

Watch what the starter drone does. A useful baseline answers four questions:

  • How long does breaking ore take?
  • Does the drone fill Cargo before the target is cleared?
  • How long is the round trip?
  • When and where does cash appear?

You do not need perfect timing. Even a rough observation distinguishes “mining takes most of the cycle” from “travel takes most of the cycle.”

Minute 1–2: complete one full cycle

Let a drone move through one complete mine → carry → return → sell cycle before changing several upgrades. Note the cash before and after. If the interface exposes a production rate, record it, but do not assume it is the same as another player’s or another build’s value.

This baseline matters because the three official upgrade dimensions solve different problems:

  • Mining Power is relevant when breaking the target ore dominates the cycle.
  • Cargo matters when the hold fills too early and forces frequent returns.
  • Speed matters when travel consumes a large share of elapsed time.

The game may expose more specific upgrade labels, but the diagnostic principle stays the same.

Minute 2–3: pair drones with dock capacity

Recent footage shows a player rolling a drone, choosing whether to buy it, unlocking a dock position, assigning the drone, and recalling it later. The key constraint is simple: a drone needs useful capacity.

Before paying for another drone, ask:

  1. Is there an empty active slot?
  2. If not, will this drone replace a weaker active one?
  3. If neither is true, would a dock expansion be the better first purchase?

Likewise, an empty dock expansion has no immediate production by itself if no drone is ready to use it. Early growth works best when drone supply and slot capacity stay paired.

Minute 3–4: test reported codes carefully

Current guides show a code field inside Settings. This wiki lists six entries as cross-reported, not guaranteed: BETA9BETA, UPDATE8, DISCORD, UPDATE7, BETABETA, and DRONES.

Use the codes status guide before redeeming. Enter one code exactly, wait for the result, and confirm the reward appears. Read the live item tooltip before consuming anything, especially because public descriptions conflict over Strong Battery behavior.

If a code fails, do not keep changing its spelling based on guesses. Record the date, build title, server, and message, then try a fresh server once.

Minute 4–5: buy one measurable improvement

Choose a single intervention and observe another full cycle:

What you observeFirst thing to inspectWhy
An active drone has no slotDock capacityIdle drones cannot add immediate fleet throughput
A slot is emptyAffordable useful droneEmpty capacity produces nothing alone
Ore takes most of the cycleMining PowerIt targets the longest stage
Cargo fills almost instantlyCargo capacityIt may reduce premature return trips
Travel dominatesSpeedIt may reduce non-mining time

Change only that one variable, then compare before and after. This prevents the common mistake of buying Power, Cargo, and Speed together and having no idea which purchase improved the route.

First-session rules that prevent waste

Do not rank drones by rarity alone

The official description advertises Luck and extreme rarity, but it does not publish a complete current table of Mining Power, Cargo, Speed, and effective odds. A rarer label is not enough to calculate route throughput. Compare the values visible in your UI and whether the candidate can actually take an active slot.

Keep a cash reserve

There is no verified universal “correct” reserve percentage. Keep enough cash to avoid stranding a useful purchase behind an immediately required dock or fleet upgrade. The optimizer lets you enter your own cash reserve rather than claiming a developer-set rule.

Treat evolution prompts as decisions

The official description confirms that evolution unlocks rarer ore and larger worlds, but public sources do not establish exact reset or carry-over rules. Read the live confirmation screen. Record the threshold, what is consumed, what persists, and the expected post-evolution rate before confirming.

Claim routine rewards, but verify labels

Recent footage shows playtime rewards and index-related systems. Claiming visible free rewards is low-friction, but any exact reward table may change. Let the current UI outrank an older video.

After the first five minutes

When the fleet has several moving parts, use the drone fleet and mining guide to measure slot utilization and cycle assumptions. When a planet milestone appears, use the planet evolution guide and the Evolution ROI Scenario.

The goal is not to predict hidden code. It is to make a better decision from values the game already shows you.

Frequently asked questions

What should I upgrade first in Mine a Planet?

Upgrade the stage that is visibly limiting a complete cycle: dock capacity, an empty slot, ore-breaking time, cargo saturation, or travel time. Change one variable and measure again.

Should I keep rolling drones immediately?

Only when a new drone can occupy an open dock slot or replace a weaker active drone. An idle result does not improve immediate mining throughput.

Should a beginner use every code reward immediately?

No. Verify the code and read each current tooltip first so a time-sensitive or target-specific item is not spent before it is useful.
